Juan Soto is a New York Met

Little Brother no longer?💸 Knicks lose NBA Cup to Hawks🐦 Football Sucks👎

Well guys, it actually happened. After a whole year of squabbling between the New York baseball clubs, Juan Soto has actually become a Met. Juan Soto signed a 15-year contract worth $765 million, the largest contract in the history of baseball. Despite being a part of this years World Series run with the Yankees, ultimately, it was all about the money for Soto. The Yankees offer stood at reportedly $760 million over 16 years, only 5 million dollars and 1 year off of the Mets deal. Neither deal had any deferrals. Supposedly Juan had some personal beef with the Yankees after they barred friends and family of his from certain areas of Yankee Stadium last season in one incident as well as the Yankees not offering him a suite along with his deal. The Yankees have never given a suite to any player, including Judge or Jeter, so they refused Soto’s request.

Queens’ new dynamic duo

If you are a Mets fan reading this you are probably ecstatic. Not only did you just sign one of the top baseball talents in the world for the next 15 years, you finally showed the Yankees your team is something to be reckoned with. This could be the turning point of the “little brother” mentality surrounding the Mets when compared to the Yankees. With Lindor and Soto leading the charges and Steve Cohen preparing to make even more big moves, the Mets are looking at a new era where they will always have the biggest offer on the table.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman

Now, if you are a Yankees fan, you probably feel betrayed and angry. The Juan Soto trade ended up becoming a one-year rental. While that is not ideal, I still don’t think the Yankees should regret it. They made it all the way to the World Series for crying out loud. Still, the Evil Empire has almost officially crumbled. The Yankees no longer will always have to best offer for the best free agent in the offseason. The days of seemingly infinite roster spending are over. However, I don’t think the Yankees are completely dead. That 47 million dollars they were gonna use on Soto can now be allocated to shore up other holes in the roster that were revealed during the World Series (Starting Pitching, 3B, 1B, etc.). Juan Soto was the easier option, but now that he is playing for the cross town rival, Brian Cashman now has a lot more work on his hands with plan B.

1. Yankees Fans Aren’t Happy with Juan Soto…

Subway Series gonna be rowdy this year

The New York Baseball Civil War has erupted following the shocking announcement that Juan Soto has signed with the Mets, securing the largest contract in sports history! The news has ignited a firestorm among Yankees fans on social media, with many voicing their outrage and criticizing Soto for snubbing the Yankees. Some fans argue that the deal is an "overpay" and that Soto isn't worth the contract, while others express heartbreak and frustration over his decision to leave.

2. Max Fried Signs with Yankees

The Yankees get FRIED

The Yankees take to their backup plan after losing the “Soto Sweepstakes” by signing former Braves lefty Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract. This contract ranks as the fourth-largest ever for a starting pitcher and sets a new MLB record for the highest deal given to a lefty.

3. Knicks Out of NBA Cup with Loss to Hawks

Bro is so ugly

The Knicks lose their rivalry matchup against the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Cup Quarterfinals with the final score of 108-100. Not only did they lose, but they let Trae Young dance all over the Knicks logo after the game, and NOBODY did ANYTHING about it. Knicks started the first half on a groove, KAT and Josh Hart being the workhorses early on, while Jalen Brunson was struggling the entire night with Hawks player Dyson Daniels being up on his grill with lockdown defense. This season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Knicks, filled with highs and lows. Some issues to mention are how inconsistent the Knicks are with the three ball, how dysfunctional the defense looks with Karl-Anthony Towns at the center position, and our struggles with securing rebounds to make second-chance plays. All these problems are happening after the departure of Donte DiVincenzo, who had a streaky three-point shot and would deliver tough shots during crunch time, along with Isaiah Hartenstein, who had a deep connection with Brunson last season on the pick and roll while also being a rebounding machine with major defensive presence. Not to mention Mitchell Robinson being a huge factor for our second chance plays, who unfortunately hasn’t played a single game due to an injury (SCREW YOU EMBIID). Hopefully, when Mitchell Robinson comes back, the Knicks start figuring it out but until then, I expect a lot of inconsistency through the early part of the season.

4. Giants Most Likely Team to Land #1 Pick

Cam Ward Prayer Circle

As you see in the photo, the Giants currently have a 40% chance of landing the #1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This would be the third time in Giants history to land the #1 overall pick, with the last time dating back to 1965. With Tommy Devito and Drew Lock sharing the backfield, the Giants desperately need an upgrade at the quarterback position. Although this draft class seems to be lacking QB talent, there is a name that could fit well with the Giants scheme. Miami QB Cam Ward is one of the top outlooks for the draft. Cam Ward has great arm strength, a solid pocket presence, and a whole lot of confidence in his playstyle. The big issue with Cam Ward is that he struggles with decision-making and sometimes holds onto the ball for way to long, which leads to him getting sacked more than likely. All in all, if we do decide to keep Coach Brian Daboll and draft the star Miami quarterback, this could end up being the perfect fit with one another.

5. Igor got a MASSIVE Extension

The Czar is here to stay

After all the contract negotiation talks in the NHL offseason, superstar goalie Igor Shesterkin finally lands a deal with the New York Rangers, earning him $92 million for 8 years. This makes him the highest paid goalie in NHL history!! Despite the teams struggles this season, including Igor’s lower save percentage, he is still one of the top goalies in the sport and the Rangers have him locked down long term.

NEW YORK JOCK EXCHANGE 📈📉

RISERS: While Yankees fans might think otherwise, Juan Soto committing his next 15 years of baseball to play in Queens has earned him the top spot on this list. Many athletes inked deals this week, including Igor who became hockey’s highest paid goalie ever this week as well as new Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried from the Atlanta Braves. Soto isn’t the only Yankees to jump ship to the Mets with Clay Holmes getting a starting pitching spot after signing a 3 year deal with the Mets. Tommy DeVito is back in the starting spot this week vs. the Ravens.

LOSERS: John Mara was publicly embarrassed and bashed by national media after a fan paid for a plane to fly a banner over MetLife stadium reading “Mr. Mara, enough. Please fix this dumpster fire!” Former Rangers captain Jacob Trouba was traded to the Anaheim Ducks this week amid his struggles. Dexter Lawrence is out for the year and has some other stuff going on… It’s looking less and less like Aaron Rodgers will be the Jets QB in 2025 as they are reportedly going after a QB in the draft. K’Andre Miller will miss time after suffering an upper-body injury.
