Yanks losešŸ„¹ Knicks warming upšŸ„µ Soto ContractšŸ’°

Welcome to our first weekly NY Sports Newsletter! Here, you can catch up on all the best sports news, recaps, and predictions. This week, we will discuss the Yankees World Series, this weekend in the NFL, and the start of the NBA season.

Yankees Right Fielder Juan Soto

Last week, the Yankees' season ended in heartbreak as their World Series dreams fell apart in Game 5 against the Dodgers. A brutal fifth inning erased their 5-0 lead, with 3 costly errors, including a dropped flyout from Judge, a sloppy throw to third by Volpe, and failure to cover first base on a groundout by Rizzo and Cole. This essentially 6-out inning buried the Yankees into a point of no return. Despite big hits from Judge and Giancarlo Stanton and a nearly perfect game otherwise from Gerrit Cole, the Bronx Bombers couldnā€™t recover. The Yankees lost in the most fitting way possible, having all the talent in the world but unable to do the little things. With a 15-year title drought and offseason questions surrounding Aaron Boone and free agent Juan Soto, itā€™s decision time in the Bronx.

Davante Adams scoring his first touchdown of his Jets career

In other news, the Jets got a much-needed win over the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football improving to 3-6 on the season. To keep any hopes of playoffs alive, the Jets need to continue this momentum to beat the Cardinals in Arizona next week who are also coming off a win. The Giants have officially started the tank after losing to the Commanders in a somewhat close game for the second time this season. When the Giants canā€™t even beat their historic Washington punching bag once in a season, you know itā€™s over. Both the Knicks and the Nets went 2-1 this week. Brunson continues to be an All-Star leader while KAT has his first breakout game against the Heat, scoring 44 points and hauling in 13 boards. The Nets started off to a surprising 3-3 start to the season but fell back down to earth after losing to the Pistons (aka. the worst team in the NBA) at home on Sunday. The Islanders and Rangers faced off in the Battle of New York this week, with the cup-contending Rangers prevailing 5-2 over the struggling Islanders powered by Panarinā€™s 2 goals and Mika Zibanejadā€™s 3 assists.

1. Yankees Fans React to Losing the World Series

First, we need to share this video with yā€™allā€”we spoke with Yankee fans after Game 5 and got their immediate reactions.

2. Juan Soto Free Agency

Michael Kayā€™s Prediction for Juan Sotos's Contract

Next, letā€™s talk about Soto. According to Vegas, we have a 62.96% chance of bringing him back (-170 odds on DraftKings). The Yankeeā€™s top competition for the young superstar is their crosstown counterpart the Mets with the second-highest odds at +200 (33.33 percent implied). Juan Soto said himself that heā€™s ā€œopen to hearing from all 30 teamsā€ and is reported to go to the highest bidder.

3. Jets Win With Garret Wilsonā€™s Catch of the Year

The ups and downs of this turbulent Jets season continue. After trying hard to lose this game by fumbling a go-ahead touchdown at the goal line, the Jets passing attack finally looked like what we have been waiting for all season. Highlighted by Garret Wilsonā€™s miraculous catch that echoes fellow former New York Wide receiver, Odell Beckham, the Jets get a much-needed win against a solid opponent in the Houston Texans.

4. KAT Goes Off and the Knicks Start to Gel

The Knicks had a solid week this week, losing a close one to the Cavs but recovered well with a win down in Miami 116-107 and an absolute beatdown in Detroit 128-98. KAT had his best game so far as a Knick against the Heat where he eclipsed the 40-point mark on 17/25 from the field. Brunson took the wheel the next game, scoring 36 and cruising to an easy road victory. The bumps in the road were expected, but this Knicks team is starting to build some much-needed chemistry for this star-studded, new-look Knicks roster.

5. Not All the Commanders Won at Metlife Yesterdayā€¦

The bigger they are, the harder they fallā€¦

While the Giants continue their 4-game losing streak, this video gave some marginal relief as this Commanders fan received some instant karma after talking sh*t.

NEW YORK JOCK EXCHANGE šŸ“ˆšŸ“‰

RISERS: Garrett Wilson had one of the best catches ever seen on a football gridiron. He currently is 3rd in the NFL in receiving with 663 yards while also raking in 5 touchdowns. Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been the only highlight on offense for the Giants these past couple of weeks and is cementing himself as RB1. Bodega KAT has arrived, having his best game in a Knicks uniform against the Heat. Mika Zibanejad has finally woken up from a start-of-season slumber, recording 3 assists after Peter Laviolette tweaked up the Ranger lines. Despite the World Series loss, Anthony Volpeā€™s game 4, which included a go-ahead grand slam, was nothing short of legendary and is hopefully a sign of things to come.

LOSERS: Anthony Rizzo has hit free agency after the Yankees declined his club option. Game 5 was likely his last game in pinstripes and will put a sad bookend of not covering first base to an up-and-down Yankee career for the 1st baseman. Deonte Banks has been getting cooked. After being benched last week against the Steelers he continued his struggles against the Commanders and Terry Mclaurin, who had 2 touchdowns. Aaron Judge continues to be unreliable in the postseason, and just when you think he might be back, he made a costly error that started the Dodgers rally in the 5th and essentially ended the Yankees season. Both young New York defensemen Bolduc and Rempe were reassigned to minor league teams after committing major errors to start the year.
